On November 20, as part of the educational and training activities by the NOVO Study Club, a training session was held on **"Cybersecurity for Medical Centers: Data Protection and Threat Response"**.
The training, organized with the assistance of the Association of Philanthropists of Ukraine jointly with the Cyberpolice Department of the National Police of Ukraine, united representatives of state medical institutions and the private sector of Lviv – managers, doctors, system administrators, and others – around this important and relevant topic.
Expert Valeriia Ivkova, Senior Operative Officer of the Cyberpolice Department in Lviv region of the National Police of Ukraine, Police Major, characterized typical threats to medical institutions using examples of phishing, fake requests, malicious emails, etc.
The training participants received a clear algorithm of actions for responsible persons in the event of a cyberattack and ways of interacting with the cyber police.
Particular attention was paid to the issue of protecting internal systems and patient databases in medical institutions through technical security measures:
- data encryption;
- backup;
- network monitoring;
- security audit.
The event was coordinated by **Olha Huzhva** - Development Director of the Association of Philanthropists of Ukraine, member of the Advisory Board of NOVO Medical Center, journalist, media expert.
In his opening speech before the event, the Director of NOVO Medical Center **Taras Lysak** shared his own thoughts on the importance of holding such thematic training sessions, as there is a quite high percentage of insufficient awareness in Ukraine regarding cybersecurity and protecting the public's data from fraudulent actions.
The main theme of the training was the emphasis on the responsibility of medical institution managers in the event of a data leak and the need for immediate action in cooperation with the Cyberpolice to eliminate the incident as quickly as possible.
Training participants were interested in ways to protect patients' personal data from cyberattacks. Valeriia Ivkova clearly delineated the areas of responsibility for medical center employees in different positions, safeguarding them from the danger of being involved in actions that could lead to a cyber incident. Therefore, recognizing suspicious actions by fraudsters at the workplace should be entrusted to one or more employees related to cyber hygiene.
Upon completion of the training, all participants received personalized certificates from NOVO Study Club and instructions with an action algorithm in case of a cyber threat from Valeriia Ivkova and the Cyberpolice Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
Thank you for participating! And remember that only strong passwords, encryption, and attentiveness to phishing attempts will help you keep your personal and work data safe.
